Dear Parents/Carers,
I want to start the newsletter by saying a huge thank you for all of our Harvest Festival donations. Our newly appointed school council members have been helping to organise all the donations ready to take to the Food Bank next week. Our assembly focus this week has been on how we can look after both our mental health and our physical health. We learned about the 5 ways to well-being, which are:
CONNECT: Talk and listen, Be present and feel connected
BE ACTIVE: Do what you can, Enjoy what you do, Move your mood
TAKE NOTICE: Remember the simple things that give you joy
KEEP LEARNING: Embrace new experiences, See opportunities, Surprise yourself
GIVE: Your time, Your words, Your presence
Our School Council will adopt these 5 ways to wellbeing to structure our meetings in school and see how we can use these to further build our Mabe community. We will keep you updated with our work and successes on these.
Also, this week we welcomed ‘Rock Steady’ to our school who ran workshops and introduced children to a range of electrical instruments – guitars, drums and keyboards. Some children had a go at playing these instruments in a ‘Rock Band’; it was a great experience all round. The children will have brought home letters about learning one of these instruments in school and forming ‘mini rock bands’ – we can’t wait to see how they develop.
Our PTA met for the first time of the academic year on Wednesday and we have planned many exciting events for the children to enjoy over this year, as well as raising funds for the school. Every penny that is raised by the Mabe PTA is used for resources which your children will benefit from. The PTA are planning a Halloween Ball Friday 20th Oct. Years 1, 2 and 3 will be 4:30-5:30pm and Years 4,5 and 6 will be 6:00pm-7:00pm. Fancy dress is encouraged although not mandatory. The PTA will be sending out more details next week but we wanted you to get the date in your diary!
It has been lovely to meet with many of you at our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions over the past week, and I hope that you found these useful in finding out more about what your child will be learning through this year. In the week beginning 16th October, we will be having our first parent meetings of the year – more information on how to book these will be shared with you in the next couple of weeks.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend
Mrs Stevens
Ruth Adkins and James Worthington, who have been serving Governors at Mabe, for a number of years have stepped down from this role. Both Ruth and James have given time, commitment and dedication in these roles and have had significant impact in school monitoring and improvement. I want to say a huge thank you for all they have done at Mabe during their time as Governors – they will be greatly missed.
Our Governors meet termly, and come into school and monitor different aspects of the school-life in between these meetings. Due to James being a parent governor, we now have a vacancy on our Governing Board for a new parent governor. Information regarding this has been sent out; if you would like any further information about the role our Chair of Governors, Mark Lees, would be very happy to talk with you about this.
Governor Update and Thanks
