Thank you for your support in ensuring your child has good attendance. Please be reminded that the government expects all children not to miss school due to family holidays. Any child who takes 6 days or more of unauthorised absence will need to be referred to the Local Authority.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Summer Fayre – Thank you!
I just want to start this newsletter with a huge ‘Thank you’ to our PTA for all their time, dedication and effort in organising today’s summer fayre. They also adapted plans to accommodate the weather which has not been kind to us today. What a fantastic effort from all involved in the organisation of this whole school event! Thank you to everyone who is coming along later today to enjoy our summer fayre. Next week, I will be able to share the total raised with you all.
Attendance Update
You may be aware that in September 2024 new charges and expectations for attendance are being brought in by the Department of Education. A detailed letter regarding this will be coming out on Monday with the children, but to give you a quick summary of these changes the guidance has been changed in the following ways:
1. There will be a new national threshold of 10 unauthorised sessions for any reason (equivalent to 5 school days) within a rolling 10 school week period for when a penalty notice must be considered.
2. The new rules mean you will no longer be able to take your child out of school for one week’s holiday without the consideration of a penalty notice being issued.
3. There will be an increase in the penalty fine from £60 to £80 if paid in 21 days. If the fine is not paid by the first 21 days, it will rise to £160 if paid within 28 days of being issued.
4. If a second penalty fine is issued to the same parent for the same child within a 3-year rolling period, the fine will automatically rise to £160 with no option to pay the lower rate of £80.
5. If a parent then commits a third offence in a 3-year rolling period, the local authority will need to consider other enforcement options available to them. This could include prosecution.
In addition, any holidays taken without informing the school will be followed up with a home visit and, if the whereabouts of the children cannot be ascertained, a penalty notice must be considered. By having this information now, you can ensure that any holidays booked for next year are in line with this guidance. If you are unsure whether you will be affected by the new rules, please do catch me when I am out and about on the gates in the morning.
With my best wishes
Mrs Stevens
Notices
Following on from last week’s school trip payments update where there has been shortfalls in the amount needed, it has been brought to my attention that not everyone knows where to find the payments to make them. If you need support with this, please do pop into school and we will be happy to assist.
