Message from the Head
As many of you know I am sure, Mrs McCarthy is retiring at the end of this school year and will be very much missed. She has worked at Mabe primary for 23 years and her knowledge, experience and expertise has supported me so much through this year. We are now recruiting for her replacement and the school administrator role vacancy is now live – details have been shared via DoJo and Facebook, and can be found on our Kernow Learning website. If you, or anyone you know, would like additional information about the role please do not hesitate to get into contact with myself or Mrs McCarthy and we will be able to discuss this with you in greater detail.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend
Mrs Stevens
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been lovely this week as we have enjoyed the spell of nicer weather, which has meant we have been able to make use of our school field during the day. The children have been playing so well with each other during these times and have been so creative in how they are using this social time within our school day. I am very much hoping for continued dry weather so that we can continue to make the most of the outside areas on offer at Mabe.
One of our school development points through this year has been developing our Oracy curriculum through implementing Voice 21. This means that we use a ‘no hands up’ approach in every classroom and encourage the children to stand and share their responses after planned thinking time and paired talk. We also expect our children to answer and speak in full sentences, and through our discussion work, children can agree, build or challenge talk in the classrooms. Everyone has been doing such a brilliant job with this approach and we can see the impact in how confident the children now are to share their opinions and answers. In fact, Mabe school hosted our Fal cluster schools last Friday where those attending went on a ‘Listening Walk’ of our school to learn from the practice in place here. It is great that our practice has been recognised and that we are leading the way in Oracy.
A key date that I missed off last week’s newsletter is that class photos will take place on Thursday 6th June – please ensure children are wearing full school uniform on this day. There was also an error with the date for the Summer Fayre which will take place on Friday 5th July.
Our PTA meeting was postponed to next week: Wednesday 1st May at 6:00pm. Our main agenda item is planning the summer fayre so it would be lovely to see many of you there to help with this task. It is only through this support that we can run such events.

There has more golfing success for Rory in Year 6. He made his debut for Cornwall U14’s at St Endoduc and performed well earning points for Cornwall. Well done Rory – we are all very proud of you.

Also, the school is a smoke and vape free zone. Thank you for your support with this.
Parents Evening
We aim to keep you as informed as we can about your child’s learning, progress and attainment. To follow up from our Spring Term reports, we are going to offer Parents Evening during the week beginning Monday 13th May. We will let you know when the sign up sheets will be placed in the office for you to book in.

At Mabe our personal development programme is threaded throughout our curriculum. Our vision for Personal Development is in line with the CCEA’s definition:
