Holidays and Absence during term time
Absence will not be authorised during term time except in exceptional circumstances. It is very important that all parents and carers understand that children with unauthorised absences, including holidays, and unexplained absences are at risk of receiving a Fixed Penalty Notice from Cornwall County Council. This year, all unauthorised term time holiday of 5 days or more over a 3-month period will automatically be referred to the Local Authority and a Fixed Penalty notice will be issued.
If you would like any support or advice on attendance or any other aspect of school-life here at Mabe, please speak to your child’s class teacher or myself.
With my best wishes
Mrs Stevens
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been lovely welcoming all the children back into school this week. They have all impressed me with their positive attitudes to learning and are already showing high levels on engagement in their new topics of learning. We are pleased to be able to share with you our annual reports which will come home with your child/ren at the end of the day today. Receiving the report at the mid-year point, rather than at the end of the academic year, enables us to inform you about progress so far and important next steps for the second half of the year. In the summer term, we will hold another formal parent’s evening to discuss your child’s progress towards these identified next steps. Please do ask to make an appointment with your child’s class teacher at any point in the year though should you wish to discuss any aspect of your child’s education with us.
Attendance:
I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you all of the expectations for attendance and punctuality of schools within Kernow Learning - our full Attendance Policy can be found on our school website. At Mabe primary school we aim for ‘Every child to be in school, on time, every day, learning ready’. Attendance is reviewed weekly on an individual basis. We have carefully developed our daily timetable at school to maximise every learning moment, and by children being in school as often as they are able to means that they make the most of these learning opportunities. Good levels of attendance also helps to secure positive friendships.
Absence through illness
We understand and appreciate that children can become ill and there will be occasions where they will need to be kept home from school to rest and recover. If your child is too ill to attend school, please contact the school office before 9.25am with full details of your child’s illness/symptoms. If we do not hear from you, we will ring you to find out why your child is not in school. If we have no contact from you as to the reason for the absence, we will treat it as unauthorised. Where there is an absence with no contact from the family, the school may follow this up with a home visit.
Attendance Stats

Sandpipers | 99% |
Curlews | 99% |

Thank you for your support in ensuring your child has good attendance. Please be reminded that the government expects all children not to miss school due to family holidays. Any child who takes 6 days or more of unauthorised absence will need to be referred to the Local Authority.
