Thank you for your support in ensuring your child has good attendance. Please be reminded that the government expects all children not to miss school due to family holidays. Any child who takes 6 days or more of unauthorised absence will need to be referred to the Local Authority.
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was wonderful to see so many of you pop into school last week for our very first Open Afternoon. We hope you enjoyed having the opportunity to have a look through your child’s learning with them. We will plan another session like this in the summer term, but will have an Open Morning when you can pop in at the beginning of the school day. By varying the timings of when we offer parent’s events, we hope to be able to cater for many of you as we know how difficult it can be with working patterns.
This week is National Storytelling week and, on Wednesday, we welcomed a story-teller to our school. He led a whole school assembly and led storytelling workshops in our Year 3 and Year 5 classes. Inspiring our children’s language through storytelling is a key aspect of our approach to the teaching of writing at Mabe, so this was a fantastic opportunity. In addition to Storytelling week, today we are celebrating all things to do with Maths and Number as it is the NSPCC Number Day. We launched our Number day with a special assembly from Mrs Pearce, and in classes we have based our day looking at Maths through storybooks.
On Tuesday, we were visited at school by Mr Middlemore, who is the Deputy CEO of our Trust – Kernow Learning. He is the lead for school improvement in our Trust and visits each of our 21 schools to support with our curriculums and quality of teaching.
This was an extremely positive day at Mabe and, in his report to us, he identified the following strengths:
-Behaviour for learning is typically strong.
-The school’s curriculum is in scope and ambitious.
-Teacher’s have high expectations of all pupils
-Pupils’ presentation is sharp.
-The very large proportion of pupils are making strong progress.
-Pupils are clearly engaged in the wider curriculum and are making positive progress across a range of subjects
Our next steps to continue to improve our provision here at Mabe is to:
-Carefully consider how and when we are assessing to ensure that key learning is revisited at a point in time so that leaders are confident that pupils know more and, in turn, remember more overtime.
I spent the day with Mr Middlemore visiting classes, looking in books and talking to the children. It was a real pleasure to see such high quality of learning taking place, and the children were so articulate when talking about their learning. I am a very proud Headteacher!
With my very best wishes
Mrs Stevens
Safer Internet Day 2024
On the 6th of February, it is Safer Internet Day. With technology advancing all the time and the risks posed ever changing, we at Mabe are committed to ensuring that children are well informed to make the right choices when using technology. The children in Years 1 – 6 will be visited by the Breck Foundation as part of Internet Safety Day. Some classes will also be joined by children from Wendron Primary School who will share this experience with us. Please find more information about the Breck Foundation attached.
Additionally, on Monday the 5th of February at 6pm there will be a Parent session on Zoom. This is recommended for anyone who would like information regarding how to help their children stay safe online. The more the merrier! The details are below:

New PTA Date
We are so very grateful for all the parents who support on our PTA and are always looking to welcome new parents to join us in raising funds for our school. Our next PTA meeting is Wednesday 7th February at 6:00pm. Please come along and support if you are able to.
Parent maths workshops
We have a great opportunity for parents to attend a series of free sessions aimed at helping you support your child with their Maths learning. Multiply (based at Truro and Penwith College) are a government funded project with the goal of improving and supporting Maths skills and confidence. They would offer a series of four free sessions looking at different topics such as number, shape, ratio and measurement (although the content could vary according to parental need). The last session would aim to look at Y6 SATs papers. The sessions will be held at Mabe School and could be once a week, fortnightly or once a month depending on your preference. Any childcare costs could be reimbursed if parents use a registered childminder.
If you are interested, please message Mrs McCarthy or myself on Dojo. Many thanks, Mrs Pearce.
