Mrs Stevens
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back everyone! It has been lovely seeing all of the children return to school looking so smart and ready to begin their new school year. I hope you had a fantastic summer holiday and enjoyed lots of family time despite the up and down Cornish summer weather!
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new children and families who have joined us and hope that you will enjoy being a part of our community here at Mabe school. Our new Reception and Nursery children have been settling in to school this week through their shorter sessions over the last few days, and enjoyed their first full day today.
We are all looking forward to the year ahead, and I know that the staff have many exciting learning experiences planned. I am very much looking forward to working with you all over the coming year and am committed to us working together, and keeping you involved and informed as I can. We have a parents evening planned for this first half term – in the week beginning 16th Ocotber - where you will be able to make an appointment to discuss how your child has settled into their new class, and discuss how they are getting on with their learning.
I am sure, like me, you are very much looking forward to the year ahead and I will continue to keep you involved and informed as much as possible, and to be readily available to you all. Please feel free to stop and chat whenever you see me or any of our teachers out and about at the beginnings and ends of the school day, or if you have a suggestion or concern you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to get in touch. Partnership working is so important and we value our home, school relationships.
With best wishes,

Keeping you informed
Following on from the feedback in the end of year survey, and from the parents meeting I held in July, we now have a Mabe Facebook page – please give us a like and follow. On this page, we will share learning from each class, but also keep you up to date with what is coming up.
Class Dojo
Class DoJo will continue to be used by all classes and will be the primary communication tool between you and your child’s class teacher. Please be aware that teachers have these set to ‘quiet hours’ out of school hours and will, therefore, only respond to messages between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
Newsletters
There is a section for key dates in the weekly newsletters. Wherever possible, we will keep dates as they are set but we all know that things can happen in a moment to waylay even the best laid plans! Any date changes will be highlighted to you, and we will endeavor to keep these at a minimum.
Meet the teacher meetings
Each class teacher will be running a short (15 mins) meet the teacher and welcome to the year group meeting in the next couple of weeks – dates and times will be posted in next week’s newsletter. Please do not worry if you are unable to make the session as the slides will be published on our school website for you.
Website
Our school website has been revised and contains all the key information you need, including half termly planners and more detailed curriculum information. Here you can also find all the staff who work at Mabe school and what their primary role in the school is. Please note that the website is still under development.
Keeping you involved
At the parent’s meeting, there was a clear desire for parents to be more involved in aspects of school life. This year, there will be two formal parent’s meeting – one in the Autumn term and one in the Summer term, There will be a formal written report that will come out in the Spring term. Each term, we will also welcome you into school for an informal Open Afternoon – this is when you can come into your child’s class and your child will be able to show you their learning before going home at the end of the school day.
Some parents have also expressed an interest in supporting hearing children read, and we want to create our own ‘Mabe Reading Taskforce’. If you have an hour or two to spare each week, where you would like to hear children read, please let your child’s class teacher know and we will be in touch with extra information and next steps.
We will no longer be offering after school club on a Friday.
If you are interested in booking your child in for any wrap around sessions this term, please contact
Mrs McCarthy in the office.
